These steam engines belong as well to the category
of the 'young ladies' (signorine). Because of their tiny
dimensions they could run turns of limited radius and, thanks to
their little weigth, they could go along rails with light superstructure.
Conceived for the local branch lines, they have done very well with
short mixed freight-passenger trains. In 1916, 60 units were fabricated
in two series. One remains efficient as historical locomotive in
the Trenitalia's historical fleet.
