These cars were devised for light trains, consisting
of two passenger cars plus one baggage car and therefore faster
than the trains with a heavier consist. The cars were fabricated
in 30 units between 1934 and 1936 in three series as follows: 3rd
class cars CT 46.000, mixed 2nd/3rd class cars BCDT 66.200 and prison-van
cars for transportation of prisoners. After the abolition of the
3rd class in all Europe in 1956, the passenger cars were upgraded
as BT 46.000, with open-air viewing platforms ('terrazzini') to
both the extremities and two 2nd class halls with wooden seats,
and ABDT 66.200 with a single open-air platform, one 2nd class hall
with wooden seats, one 1st class hall with red velvet seats and
a baggage compartment. Set aside in the Seventies, some units live
again today in heritage trains pulled by steam engines.
